"Her-o-ine: a woman admired or idealized for her courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities."
In honor of Women's History Month I want to shine light on 2 women who made it an art to be heroic.
Men aren't the only ones who show bravery in the midst of danger. Many more women should have been allowed to enlist in the military a long time ago because of women like Harriet Tubman. Tubman was the General of her own army of freedom seekers while conducting the underground railroad. Freeing approximately seventy enslaved families and friends after she first escaped from slavery herself, Harriet Tubman truly made a name for herself. She went on to accomplish many other heroic feats such as working for the Union Army as an armed scout and spy.
When you think of a Catholic beacon of love, grace and charity the Pope may come to mind. But how about the beauty resonated by Mother Teresa? Besides being the founder of the "Missionaries of Charity" congregation, which was active in 133 countries, she opened many hospices, orphanages and leper houses. Mother Teresa was also awarded the Nobel Peace Prize as well as honorary degrees. Through her countless acts she never wore a mask and cape, only a Sari and a welcoming smile.
Below are portraits I drew of these two heroines. Enjoy!
