Since my last post a few months back about receiving my replacement device for creating artwork on the go, I kind of went missing, so to speak. And some people have wondered what's been up. Well to give you an update, I have indeed been on the go, but creating none-the-less. And in doing so my inspiration has come to me from several different places , such as life's experiences, to the music I listen to while working and during my commute, to some of the shows I enjoy during my down time. Below is just a portion of what I've been up to. Hope you enjoy!
"A while back the phone I so passionately created art with died due to foreseen circumstances . During my loss I found out that I had become so attached to that device; it was an extension of my imagination. I created image after image with my phone with such abandon that I reached a state of nirvana in some sessions. In it's absence I reluctantly found myself dabbling with other medium, some as simple as pen and pencil which I had gotten away from due to my attachment to my device. Because of that I gained more confidence in my technique and feel more familiar with what I feel my
style truly is. I started a fund raiser in hopes of replacing my phone and even though I did receive a sizable donation I fell short of my goal. Knowing just how much being able to create on the spot meant to me, on Christmas my beautiful wife surprised me with another phone to create with. Now I plan to combine the old with the new for a different look in my artistry! Perhaps the phone conking out on me was meant to remind me that I'm more than just a guy messing around with an art program or two on a phone...I am an artist with or without it. Below is a portrait of my beautiful wife that she was unaware I was creating titled "Her." Enjoy! With so much going on in the world to be concerned about, from the country split over the newly elected president to what happened to Glenn on AMC's "The Dalking Dead", there is always something to be thankful for. Whether you celebrate thanksgiving or find it a complete form of hypocrisy based off of the genocide of this land's original inhabitants, there is always something to give thanks for today and the rest of the 364(5) days of the year. Wishing everyone a safe and happy holiday!
"It you concentrate on finding whatever good in a situation, you will discover that your life will suddenly be filled with gratitude, a feeling that nurtures the soul." -Harold Kushner Kairu Toorie AKA Yakusan893 is an outstanding artist from New York with a notable following online, and for good reason! I recently had the pleasure of picking his brain via direct message (DM) on Instagram to get a few of the ingredients for the secret recipe behind his awesomeness. Heroic Artistry: When did you start creating art? Yakusan983: I started drawing when I was about 7. At least drawing visible forms. Mostly in a mead notebook of the video games I played at that age. Heroic Artistry: Who are some of the artists that inspire you? Yakusan983: Tetsuo Hara (Fist of the North Star) Kentaro Miura (Berserk) Takehiko Inoue (Vagabond) and a few Renaissance European artists, especially Leonardo Da Vinci. Not so much for his paintings but for his sketches and aspirations to master anatomy. Heroic Artistry: How would you describe your style? Yakusan983: A mix of aesthetic semi realism combined with a manga feel. Particularly of the late 80s early 90s seinen genre. Very serious and adult like. Heroic Artistry: What are your favorite medium to use and why? Yakusan983: I have gotten used to attacking paper with only a fine tipped pen in sketch books and I never had a good medium of color that I was comfortable with. I came across copic markers and found them easy and comfortable to use. Also they have an interesting yield when blending colors together. Now I'm experimenting with watercolor paint. But I still use my pen at the forefront in detailed work. Heroic Artistry: Any formal studies? Yakusan983: I had a tutor for watercolor painting prior to high school and in high school I took portfolio classes in art house. My teacher Jack DeMartino was very influential in teaching me proportions, placement and lights and dark of gray values to create shadows. Heroic Artistry: What are your favorite things to draw and why? Yakusan983: My favorite things to draw are the things I grew up on. Manga and my own personal works. Heroic Artistry: Why do you create? Yakusan983: I create because I have a story to tell. There are people who need influence, something to admire or look up to as an example. Whether you're a child or a grown up, there are people who use batman, superman, wonder woman, spiderman as examples and standards. I simply want to give that to the people in my very own way. Heroic Artistry: Outstanding! I too have a story/stories I hope to tell and get out sooner than later! Anything else you'd like to add? Yakusan983: I'd also have to add that my father used to draw a lot of marvel comic art. I followed in his footsteps through manga. He is now a storybook writer and found out he may be a better author than illustrator and I received both art and storytelling from him..the ability to create ideas and bring them to life. Check out a sample of his work below. These are his original characters which are copy-written. To contact him you can do so via email @ [email protected]
or follow him on Instagram @yakusan893 Hope you all enjoyed this post! Besides being Cinco De Mayo , May 5th is National Cartoonists Day! Cartoonists Day celebrates the anniversary of the publishing of the first ever colour cartoon, The Yellow Kid in 1895. Now cartoons are a core component of many newspapers, publications and printed media, and have had (and continue to have) a huge impact on our culture. In honor of this day I'm giving you a snap-shot at the process that goes into the way I make comics. Below is the end result. An oldie but goodie of WILDLIFE. Enjoy!
Hey everyone! For those of you who know me my name is Jeremy Pollard, the hand behind Heroic Artistry. I am an artist. I have been met with a set-back that I should have seen coming, my phone died. Some of my artwork was not backed up and is now lost forever. No worries, I'll just create more!
However, this was not just a phone to me. This was more than a phone. I created images for clients with it, which at times helped me support my family. I created artwork to inspire others and in doing so I found a bit of therapy from some of life's daily trials. This device was an essential tool for pursuing my dreams in the art industry. I attempted to restore it more than 20 times to no avail with special software both factory released and non. It has froze and is boot-looping, won't restart or as some call it bricked. If the goal is reached I will acquire the bare basic Samsung Galaxy Note 1. I don't need the newest and latest to create. Your donations would be greatly appreciated as I would be able to continue on down my digital art journey. As as thanks to all who help, I will be issuing out free artwork and possible commissions upon receipt of my new device. I will update everyone with the outcome of this venture. As always, thank you for your interests and investments in my work! Click the link below to donate!

There has always been something "funny" about the world we live in since the beginning of time. It's that oftentimes women have been looked at as the downfall of a man. Look at Adam and Eve for instance...Eve was said to have eaten the forbidden fruit which caused a slew of problems. If they aren't to blame then they're to be saved. Look at the Princess in Super Mario Brothers...she stayed getting captured by that big mean lizard Koopa. But what about the heroines?
"Her-o-ine: a woman admired or idealized for her courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities." In honor of Women's History Month I want to shine light on 2 women who made it an art to be heroic. Men aren't the only ones who show bravery in the midst of danger. Many more women should have been allowed to enlist in the military a long time ago because of women like Harriet Tubman. Tubman was the General of her own army of freedom seekers while conducting the underground railroad. Freeing approximately seventy enslaved families and friends after she first escaped from slavery herself, Harriet Tubman truly made a name for herself. She went on to accomplish many other heroic feats such as working for the Union Army as an armed scout and spy. When you think of a Catholic beacon of love, grace and charity the Pope may come to mind. But how about the beauty resonated by Mother Teresa? Besides being the founder of the "Missionaries of Charity" congregation, which was active in 133 countries, she opened many hospices, orphanages and leper houses. Mother Teresa was also awarded the Nobel Peace Prize as well as honorary degrees. Through her countless acts she never wore a mask and cape, only a Sari and a welcoming smile. Below are portraits I drew of these two heroines. Enjoy! |
